Fancy – kernels that are sound, with no defects, and are golden in color

Choice – kernels that are sound, with no defects, and are light brown in color

Light Weight – kernels with air space in the kernel and are golden or light brown in color

Standard – kernels with minor defects and are brown in color

Damaged – kernels that are inedible due to sprouting, embryo rot, green moisture color, rancid, mold, stink bug spots, decay, weevils, 40% or more fuzz, wafers and/or bad taste, and are dark brown or black in color

Kernel Color is very important in determining the grade or value of a sample. The lighter the color, the higher the value of the sample when all other factors are equal.
